Student Voice and Agency

Student voice occurs when students are given the time and space to express their views and ideas. Student voice initiatives give young people an opportunity to share their opinions about school conditions with teachers and school leaders, as well as an opportunity to partner in problem solving and participate in change efforts (Mitra, 2008).

Student agency is about the power for students to be active participants in their own learning and having the opportunity and desire to reflect and then act on their ideas.

At Roslyn Primary School we have a Student Voice and Agency Leadership Team comprised of School Captains and appointed grade 5/6 students. The team meets regularly to discuss the ideas and issues of the students Prep-6 and look for creative ways to solve problems and implement new ideas.
